The Botswana Football Association, (BFA) president, Maclean Letshwiti has quashed rumors that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mfolo Mfolo is on his way out. The future of Mfolo at BFA is alleged to be uncertain as several unconfirmed reports indicate the association might let him out following his secondment from the Ministry of Tertiary Education some years ago.

According to reports, the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) delegation that paid the association a visit late last year allegedly found Mfolo to be unskilled and not qualified to be CEO of the association. In an interview, Mfolo said he couldn’t comment about his future. He referred this publication to the President, Letshwiti. “That’s an issue to be answered by the president, that’s for the president to make a statement, not me.”

Reached for comment, BFA President Letshwiti said there is no truth to the allegations especially since the rumours were published by social media outlets, which he said, tend to peddle rumours. “He is in office and he is working, I can’t speak about his future, we don’t know what the future is like but I can confirm that the CEO is in office and he is doing his usual job,” a rather cagey Letshwiti said.

However, since the UEFA report, the Botswana Premier League booted out the then CEO Thabo Ntshinogang, who the UEFA delegation allegedly found to be surplus to requirements. Mfolo was appointed CEO back in 2017, following the departure of Ookeditse Malesu. He survived the BFA top seat for three years. The hot seat has seen many exiting the position barely six months into the job. His contract was renewed late September last year for an additional two years.
