It does not require boxes of legal tender bills to make travel expeditions. BG Style’s regular excursionist, PAKO LESEJANE extols the joy of travel even with a limited budget.

I always find it amazing to meet other people while on travel expeditions. Most that I have met, have not left me with memories that can be forgotten nor would one like to forget. But what has been more interesting is meeting the old and young travellers from all walks of life with huge backpacks and travel gadgets.
Amazingly, I have never come across a Motswana backpacker in any expeditions except fellow travel buddies that accompany me from Botswana. Most people have a perception that backpacking is just a stressful way of travelling. Some even wonder why they would leave their vehicles behind and drag a heavy backpack through out their vacation.
Backpacking offers a much affordable way of travelling especially for students with a limited budget. Accommodation usually ranges from as little as P30. 00 for camping, P 80.00 for dorms with a couple of bunk beds and private rooms from about P200.00
Backpacker’s lodges are mostly built next to malls, shopping centres, pubs, restaurants, entertainment centres and many facilities of interest to tourists. This enables one to walk than get on an overprized taxi for transport thus saving you money.
These youth hostels as they are also called have in house travel agencies with amazingly cheap travel deals and travel packages suited for everyone. Also available is the use of TV rooms, library with internet access, a kitchen, swimming pool and laundry service together with an ablution block for residents. Most have an outdoor boma where barbecues are held during the evenings while travel stories and tips are shared.
While some travel packages can only be purchased by group’s of people than individuals, youth hostels are always packed with individuals willing to build a group to exploit some of the adventure packed activities that are available on offer.
Botswana does have a few backpackers’ accommodation facilities that most youth from our own country don’t get to explore, as they are not aware of. If you cannot afford a five star hotel, camp or lodge, you can get to see the places our beautiful country at a far cheaper price but still get the same rewarding experience.
