The Local Organising Committee for the 10th edition of the Africa Junior Championships in Athletics, BOTSWANA 2011 commends Team Botswana for the outstanding performance displayed at the just ended Africa Senior Championships in Athletics held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The team’s overall performance, coming 7th at the championships has reaffirmed Botswana’s dominance of the 400m women’s race and the men’s high jump. The men’s relay team has also done the country proud coming short of a gold medal spot and finishing in the silver medal position.
The LOC recognises the achievements of the team, particularly those of Amantle Montsho, Kabelo Kgosiemang and the 4x400m men’s relay team. While the other ambassadors in the team did not make podium positions, it is our belief and trust that they put up their best efforts in representing Botswana, in fact this is evidenced by their entry into the finals of their respective events.
The LOC believes that the performance of team Botswana will serve as inspiration to Junior Team Botswana as the country prepares to host the 10th Edition of the Africa Junior Championships in Athletics in May 2011. It is our expectation that the country’s achievements in Nairobi will serve as a platform for the junior team to surpass when Africa meets in Gaborone in 2011.
