Deputy Bakwena paramount chief, Kgosi Keineetse Sebele faces redeployment or expulsion in a bid to bring about unity in the tribe, Botswana Guardian has learnt.
The appointing authority is understood to have long written to Kgosi Kgolo Kgari Sechele informing him that his deputy has been redeployed to the Customary Court of Appeal in Selibe-Phikwe.
The decision allegedly flows from a recommendation of the Balopi Commission, which was appointed by President Ian Khama to investigate why there is no peace within Bakwena chieftaincy.
The problems in the Mokwena royal house allegedly revolve around personalities and not necessarily succession.
Cooperation between Bogosi and political leadership is yet another bone of contention. Keineetse confirmed having heard the allegations but denied any knowledge of his redeployment or dismissal. “I have not received any official letter informing me about being redeployed to any position, this has been the talk since March. I am fully aware this rumour is being spread by some tribesmen,” he told Botswana Guardian.
For his part, Kgosi Kgari denied receiving any correspondence informing him that Keineetse Sebele has been redeployed to serve the customary court of appeal in Selibe Phikwe.
Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Molefi Kaeja, also denied any knowledge of the correspondence.
