While President’s Day celebrations were taking place around Gaborone, comedy-lovers gathered for the ‘Look Who’s Laughing’ comedy show featuring comedians: Mod, Rib Cracker, Jacob and South Africa’s Mo Jack, Nxoba  Nxoba and Chris Mapane.
The show, which took place in Mantlwaneng Hall on Monday night also featured local up-coming singers and poets, who impressed those in attendance.
The comedians had the whole house in fits of laughter with various imitations of local popular figures and funny stories, some of which were imaginary.
From time to time, comedians would bring their jokes closer to the audience by picking on some of them. One would have expected this to rub some members of the audience in a wrong way, but most were willing to be part of the show. However, it was evident that some would shy away from being picked on by not responding to the call from stage. Modiri Keseabetswe aka Mod was the first act to go on. The audience was laughing out loud to his hideous jokes.
Mod has featured on the local comedy scene and has successfully made a name for himself. He has, over time gathered, confidence through various comedy spots. He was a wonder to watch as he worked the stage with an electrifying performance. Not only was he telling jokes, he also was the host of the evening. He took advantage of his position as the host and announced that he was getting married and that he has a son who would someday take up his line of work.  Mod was a very comical guy and continued making the crowd laugh with his interjections as the host. His imitations of President Ian Khama, especially the way he talks, drove people into laughter.
A first-timer in Botswana from South Africa, Mo Jack was also a sight to see. Another thriller also from South Africa was Nxoba Nxobo who not only used his words to make the audience laugh; he also used actions to illustrate his points. One of his favorites was when he asked the audience if they have ever flown Air Botswana. “It’s very funny that the local airline uses the tag line, ‘Going Your Way.’ Why would you be on a flight that is not going your way?” he asked, moving people to laughter.Chris Mapane was the ending act. He talked about how kinds of music are associated with different tertiary institutions.
Stating that University of Botswana students would prefer modern music than those in rural areas. He ensured that throughout his presentation he was in tune with his audience as he teased and made fun of them.
He would pose questions; once someone from the audience attempts to answer he would make fun of them there by driving the rest of the audience into laughter.
Mapane was also free to talk about his home country and made people laugh when he stated that, “We have just celebrated Mandela Day on Sunday and our President Zuma does not mind at all. This is because he knows he’s got his special day too, ‘Fathers’ day.”
The whole audience was in tears with laughter during the show. Each put on a really great performance and had a very distinctive style.
